Jessi Towle Contributor for Habitat for Humanity of Washington County Autumn – what a more perfect time to celebrate the 11th year of Habitat for Humanity in Washington County? On Thursday Nov. 5 the community is invited to attend the annual fall celebration that will be held at the Prairie Center located on the West Bend A Mutual Insurance Company grounds. The beauty of the season is a perfect way to embrace the beautiful homes that Habitat continues to build throughout Washington County. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a cash bar, followed by hors d’oeuvres and an auction at 6 p.m. Comedian Jason Huneke who has performed on “America’s Got Talent” will take the stage at 7 p.m. The cost is $35 a person or a discounted $200 for a table of six. Habitat is also requesting in-kind donations of auction items for the event. Participation and donations ensure Habitat’s future efforts in “giving families a hand up, not a hand out.” The auction will include thirteen Habitat cookie jars filled with the participants’ best family recipe. A new addition to the annual fall celebration, the success of the “Baker’s Dozen” promotion will guarantee the building of future homes and also satisfy any sweet tooth craving. Presently, two homes located on Barton Avenue in West Bend are nearing completion. The construction of two more homes on Sunset Drive in Hartford is already underway. Habitat continues to seek in-kind parcels of land that will accommodate future single-family dwellings or side-by-side duplexes. Aside from generous donations from community members, Habitat is able to purchase some affordable lots based on a fiscal budget. Neighbors of Washington County provide Habitat with the support necessary to carry out their mission. The giving is cyclical as Habitat continues to give back to a community that has already invested so much in the organization through donations and volunteering. If you are interested in making a donation or would like to confirm your attendance at the 2009 annual fall celebration, please contact director of development Rex Melius at (262) 483-2053. Reservations are recommended by Friday Oct. 30 to reserve a seat at the event.
