Relay For Life of West Bend
Each year, across the nation, one event brings together entire communities to take part in the fight against cancer. That event is the American Cancer Society Relay For Life®. It’s a time and place where people come to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against a disease that touches too many lives. Won’t you join us this year and be a part of The 16th Annual Relay For Life of Hartford-Slinger? It’s not just an opportunity to celebrate, remember, and fight back – your involvement will help the American Cancer Society work toward a mission of eliminating cancer as major health issue and will support much-needed services in your community. Thanks in part to the donations from Relay For Life and other events, the Society is saving lives, helping those touched by cancer, and empowering people to fight this disease all over the world. The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Hartford-Slinger is an 12 hour celebration of life in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by cancer. Join us for entertainment, justice, food, prizes, fun and a night of camping under the starts! All while teams of 8-15 people walk, jog, or run around the High School track. Teams come together for one goal - to raise funds through donations to help in the fight against cancer. Relay For Life is for everyone- because It’s not athletically challenging or competitive, anyone can participate! What makes the Relay For Life of Hartford-Slinger an event that will be remembered is the sense of pride, camaraderie, and personal satisfaction you’ll feel knowing that you’ve helped raise awareness that cancer can, and will be beaten. The funds raised at Relay go a long way toward helping the American Cancer Society continue its programs of Research, Education, Advocacy and Service to cancer patients. Light the Way to a Cure! The highlight of the event is the beautiful Luminaria Ceremony held to honor survivors and to remember those who have lost their battle against cancer. These luminaries are left burning throughout the night to remind participants of the incredible importance of their contribution. Guest speakers will also share their experiences with cancer and the need to eliminate this disease. Team Spirit: Participants form teams of 8-15 people, taking turns on the track in shifts of 30 minutes to two hours. Teams are organized by friends, relatives, local businesses, hospitals, schools, neighborhoods, churches and community organizations. Team goals are to: •Keep at least one member of the team on the track at all times, Collect as many donations/funds as possible prior to the event to help support Research and American Cancer Society programs and services. Team members seek donations from friends, co-workers, family and business associates. Each participant is encouraged to raise $100 in donations prior to the event. Only 10 friends at $10 each- and you’ll have your $100! Don’t stop there- great incentive prizes are available for those who raise more. Fundraising for a Good Cause: With your help, and the help of friends who donate, we can all fight for the lives of many who are battling cancer, or the one out of three Americans who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Your gift is a gift to many. Relay For Life events remind us that progress has been made against cancer and that everyone who participates is making a difference.
